The Mill Pool (the larger of the two pools) contains a huge number of carp up to 35 pounds and has probably given more people their first twenty pound carp than any other water in the Midlands. In the past it has been fished very intensively but for the last few years has been fished by no more than eight anglers fishing with two rods each.
The Long Pool clearly has a large head of carp though they are probably smaller than those in the Mill Pool. In the past it was run as a coarse fishery but the numbers of silver fish have been dramatically reduced and the carp seem to be thriving. We fish up to six anglers on the Long Pool.
The gates are opened at 7am. If there are several folk booked on, there is usually a draw to sort out who fishes where at 7.15am and fishing starts thereafter, fishing until dusk.

Night Fishing
You can fish overnight by buying two day tickets which will entitle you to fish the intervening night free of charge. If you buy three day tickets, you can fish the two intervening nights and so on for however long you would like to stay.
Lake Exclusives
If you would like to take the whole lake exclusively for yourself and friends for any period of time, you can do this by buying all eight day tickets for whatever period you wish. You would then be entitled to fish all the intervening nights as well. We normally only permit bookings for day tickets up to one month ahead. But for exclusive bookings, we are happy to work much further ahead to enable you to get a team organised. When you are ready to book, you will need to contact Alan, who manages the fishery, to open up the booking system specifically for you to be able to book more than a month ahead.
Please contact Alan by e mail on info@cuttlemill.co.uk
Or by phone, during sensible hours only, please, on 07983 123542
Please note: Tickets are available to be bought by credit/debit card using the form below. Once payment is received we will send you an email confirming your booking and request you print this and bring it along with you on the day. If you find that you need to change the day that you booked, you can do this online up to 24 hours before your day as well.
Cancellations: In the event that you have to cancel or simply do not turn up on the day, there are no refunds.
CAN'T I JUST TURN UP IN THE MORNING?
You certainly can just turn up but please understand that if all the slots are booked up for the pools on the day, we will not be able to let you on. All priority, including choice of swims, will be given to anglers who have already booked and paid for day tickets in advance. If you would like to see if there is space, please ensure you are at the Cuttle Mill first thing in the morning. Gates open at 7am, draw for swims if necessary at 7.15am. Whilst the Mill pool is regularly booked up, the Long Pool usually has spaces.
NIGHT FISHING AT CUTTLE MILL
In the past there has been very little night fishing at Cuttle Mill, the privilege being retained by the owners for friends and helpers. In 2015 we introduced the opportunity to night fish at The Mill which has worked very well and proved very popular and we will continue to offer night fishing for the foreseeable future.
To fish overnight you need to buy two day tickets and that will entitle you to fish the intervening night free of charge. If you want to fish two nights, you need to buy three day tickets and so on for as long as you would like to stay.
If you would like to take the lake exclusively for any number of days (ie all eight tickets for each day) then you can fish the intervening nights for free, so buy three tickets and fish two nights free and so on. This has been popular with some groups.
You can book day tickets up to a month in advance through the website, so no queuing and wondering whether you were going to get on like the old days! If you want to book the lake exclusively for any number of days then you can do so further in advance. In the first instance you need to contact me by email to discuss what you would like to do please. info@cuttlemill.co.uk
CUTTLE MILL - RULES
I hate rules and have as few as possible. In the old days they would have probably be called ‘common sense’ but practical experience has shown that we do need to make some stuff clear, so here goes.
The most important rule is simply ‘Look after the Fish!’
So, disinfect landing nets, weigh nets and unhooking mats before you start, in the dip tank by the office. We use Vircon S as disinfectant that is completely harmless to your kit, will make your nets smell nice as well as protect our lovely fish. This is seriously important as there are other fisheries locally that already have Koi Herpes virus and you could easily infect our fish with a wet net or unhooking mat and kill the whole of the Cuttle Mill stock! No disinfection means no fishing.
Two rods only, unless there are three or less anglers on the lake in which case you can fish with three. Barbless hooks. No braid mainlines or fixed leads, please. There are no restrictions on baits. If you leave your swim for any reason, wind your baits in. No bait boats. No dogs. Do not retain fish in slings, nets or retention devices of any sort. It goes without saying, that when you leave your swim it needs to be left immaculately tidy, please.
If you have a partner who wants to sit with you and they are well behaved then that is fine. There is no longer a café on site but there are toilets which can be accessed 24/7.
There are a maximum of eight anglers on the Mill Pool each day. Fishing from 7.30 am until dark. If you can’t agree where to fish between yourselves (and you usually can) we operate a simple draw to determine the choice of swims which will take place at 7.15am.
To help with the site’s security and to give guests a peaceful and pleasant visit, we do not allow people around the lakes to ‘just have a look around’ or ‘drop in to see my mate’, or ‘see what’s going on’. I’m sure you get the drift.
If you are fishing overnight, the gates are closed about 10pm and reopened at 7am and we would ask you not to enter or leave the fishery during the night, except in emergency.
The most important thing is that when you visit us, you enjoy yourselves!
